Nancy Washer: Teacher, Musician, Scholar, Adventurer

I am a Lecturer the Department of Theatre and Music Studies.  My sequence of degrees looks reasonable—B.S., M.S., and Ph.D—but the subjects are a little peculiar, Bachelors and Masters degrees in Soil Science and a doctorate in Music. My current research interests are the troubadours, twelfth and thirteenth century poet-composers in Occitan, and their descendants in modern Oc and Roll. I am also a practicing musician, performing regularly on violin with the Brockport College-Community Orchestra and occasionally with the Mean Tone Viol Consort on bass viola da gamba (we perform only occasionally). All of these experiences have also engaged my love of adventure and travel. I have spent time in 49 states (missing only Hawaii) and all the Canadian Provinces and Territories except Nunavut. I have even touched the Arctic Ocean (technically the Beaufort Sea) at Tuktoyaktuk, NWT.
